Wee Generation Baby Bag at IDEO | 2007 Consulting at IDEO for Seventh Generation | Human Factors Research | Design Process Workshop | Prototyping As an intern with IDEO, I researched with expectant or new parents, and helped facilitate a two day Deep-Dive workshop with Seventh Generation, a Vermont based company and the leading brand for non-toxic, household products. Leading up to the workshop I took part in conducting at-home human factors research with new parents, exploring the products they use for baby care, home cleaning, and getting to know their values as parents and environmentalists. With this information in hand, we planned the workshop and made posters to communicate our learnings to the folks from Seventh Generation, Baby Style, Healthy Child Healthy World, and Bill McDonough. During the two day workshop, I lead a group to conduct additional human factors research. We regrouped to communicate what we saw to the rest of the group before splitting into two groups to brainstorm elements of a baby bag that would, "love all the children of all species for all time." Following that, and with assistance from professional seamstresses, the group created prototypes using raw material and bags donated from Timbuk2. Guest parents came in to help us evaluate the prototypes before going on to round-two of prototyping. Using the content generated by the workshop, I designed a book for Seventh Generation to keep the ideas, material, and design process they learned over those incredible two days.
